✂️ 6 Fat Quarter Quilt Patterns + Curated Bundles
Hey quilty friend,
While searching for a walking foot in my studio, I opened a few old tubs… and found a hidden stash of fat quarters I’d completely forgotten about. It felt like uncovering a little fabric treasure chest!
That discovery reminded me: we often already have what we need to start something beautiful.
So today, I’m sharing six of my favorite quilt patterns that use only fat quarters—no extra yardage unless you want to add a border or binding. Each one is just $2, and if you need a little fabric inspiration, I’ve got curated bundles ready to go too.
Let’s dive into some fun, stash-friendly quilting!

🧵 What Makes Fat Quarter Patterns So Fun?
Fat quarter-friendly quilts are some of my absolute favorites because they’re:
✔️ Easy to pull from stash
✔️ Great for mixing bundles or pre-cuts
✔️ Fast to cut and piece
✔️ Budget-friendly (hello, $2 patterns!)
They’re perfect for gift-giving, weekend sewing, and using those fabrics you’ve been saving for “someday.” (This is your someday.)
💛 6 Favorite Quilt Patterns That Only Use Fat Quarters
Here are six tried-and-true patterns from Villa Rosa Designs that only use fat quarters—and nothing else unless noted. Whether you’re a confident beginner or an experienced quilter looking for a fun weekend project, you’ll find something to love here.
✨ 1. Biscotti – 48" x 64"
Uses: 10 Fat Quarters
Biscotti is your best friend when you want to let the fabric do the talking. This pattern keeps the pieces big and bold, which makes it perfect for large-scale florals, novelty prints, or those special fat quarters that are too beautiful to chop up.
It's simple, quick, and incredibly satisfying—especially when you want a finish that doesn't take forever.
Try it with:
-
Seasonal bundles (Spring, Fall, Christmas)
-
Bold florals
-
Low-volume prints for a calming vibe
✨ 2. Berry Smoothie – 54" x 64"
Uses: 12 Fat Quarters
Optional: ½ yard for binding
This one has a soft, blended layout that looks absolutely stunning with batiks or coordinated fabric collections. I used it once with a sherbet-colored bundle—pinks, creams, corals—and it felt like sewing sunshine.
If you like quilts that flow and feel calm, this one’s a beauty.
Perfect for:
-
Baby quilts
-
Spring or Easter projects
-
Batik or ombré bundles
✨ 3. Gumbo – 54" x 64"
Uses: 12 Fat Quarters
Gumbo has that classic scrappy look, but it’s not chaos—it’s organized fun. It’s ideal when your fabrics don’t match perfectly, but you love them anyway. The layout brings cohesion to wild combos and gives your quilt a playful personality.
Try it when you want to:
-
Use leftover fat quarters
-
Mix novelty prints and solids
-
Let go of perfection and enjoy the process
✨ 4. Moonstone – 37" x 50"
Uses: 6 Fat Quarters
Short on fabric or time? Moonstone to the rescue. This small quilt is perfect for babies, lap throws, or weekend finishes. It’s also great for using soft textures like brushed cottons or flannels.
I made one using pastel florals and flannel backing—and it’s now my go-to "curl up and read" quilt.
Great for:
-
Baby showers
-
New quilters
-
Quick wins with a cozy finish
✨ 5. Pink Peace – 48" x 55"
Uses: 8 Fat Quarters
Optional: 2 additional FQs or ½ yard for contrast
Pink Peace is a bold pattern that loves contrast. You can keep it soft and subtle, or go dramatic with light/dark combos. I’ve made this using navy + coral, and again with black/white + bright red—totally different feels, both gorgeous.
Perfect for:
-
Bold color combos
-
Modern solids
-
Statement pieces that sew up quick
✨ 6. Victoria – 48" x 64" (59" x 75" with optional border)
Uses: 12 Fat Quarters
Optional: 1¼ yards for border
This pattern is a favorite for gift quilts—it’s cozy, elegant, and timeless. You can dress it up with florals or go classic with muted tones. Add the border for extra size or leave it off for a quick finish.
Beautiful with:
-
Vintage florals
-
Holiday prints
-
Soft solids and neutrals
